2018 Sept 13 – 392 Auction Domains

Pretty big day for names again today. Another one of those days where there’s no one trend in particular, but just a whole bunch of variety. I went a bit deeper into the lists than usual and found a few good ones that otherwise likely would have never been found by anyone. So I really suggest looking at the full list today! Have a good (whatever day of the week today is .. lol)! 🙂

2018 Sept 11 – 425 Auction Domains

A good number of numeric domains at auction today. Both 5N and also 6N’s with multiple 8’s. I usually include all 5N’s in my list, plus today I’ve added a couple of the best 6N’s. I’d have to say I really disagree with a lot of domainers who say it’s good to buy liquid domains because they hold value. The fact of the matter is that if you buy a good hidden gem at $20-30, then the only possible downside is that $20 you paid. $20 are better than liquid because there’s only an upside.

So sure a 4L (4 letter domain. ex: lmno.com) or 4N/5N (4/5 number domain. ex: 7654.com) will always have liquid value .. but if you bought them at $3000, and the current liquid value is $1000 .. then you lost $2000. UNLESS there is actual end usage value to the specific name that gives you a fair chance of selling it at a reasonable multiple (enough to cover the potential losses on the other liquid domains in your portfolio).

What’s a bigger issue about these domains is that they also tie up a lot of capital to acquire them. At $500-5000 each they eat up a lot of your capital. If you have deep pockets then by all means go ahead and grab a bunch. Or even if you don’t, it’s likely better to get one of those at $2000 as opposed to a new domainer coming in and buying 2000 hand-registrations in one shot. Although in this case both will likely be bad investments.

At the end of the day, whether a domain is liquid or not should be almost irrelevant .. as vastly more important is the chances of an end user wanting to use any domain you want to invest in. Unless of course you’re a short-term domain flipper .. in which case most of the time the liquidity of liquid domains isn’t usually a factor on a scale of a few days or weeks.

Okay .. it’s late .. I’m super tired .. probably left something out in all that .. but it’s a very large I’ve made for today .. and it’s way past bedtimezzzzz. There’s also a record number (875) of closeout domain names in my closeout list today .. so definitely check those out as well here:

2018 Sept 11 – 875 Closeout Domains

Posting early again for you all to grab names before others. A huge 225 domain names passed through auction to $11 closeout as a good chunk of the ones I initially marked were crypto names. There were actually tons more I didn’t mark, but most were total garbage. The expired domains I posted were certainly the better ones, but even most of those I posted more for people to see rather than buy (although there certainly were a few very good ones). As much as Crypto has fallen, Bitcoin never seems to drop below $6000 .. it would be curious to chart crypto related domain sales along side the actual value of crypto. I can only guess there’s a relation and think most domainers are hoping for a jump in Crypto back to 5 figure bitcoin value! All that being said .. I wouldn’t read too much into lots of yesterday’s expired crypto names not getting picked up .. most of them really weren’t good and shouldn’t have even been bought with a $100k Bitcoin!

2018 Sept 10 – 829 Closeout Domains

Take the fact I had a huge number of auction domains listed yesterday, combined with the fact there appears to be a big buyer on vacation, and that equals a ton of closeout domains the next day (today). I was really out of it earlier today, slept through my alarms and everything .. but finally managed to get a lot of momentum in the big clean up, almost forgot to post the closeouts now. So much to do so little time!
